Hunt Doctor’s Note

 huntdoctors

We received a nice note and a photo today from the Hunt Doctors, Paul Plante, MD and Stephen Merlin, MD.  Clearly, a massive whitetail deer.

”Steve and I just wanted to drop you a note after returning for our annual Saskatchewan whitetail deer hunt. Despite the normal freezing temperatures this year we were so much more comfortable with your Hunt Comfort cushions. It was the first time we have used them and it made the long 8-10 hour sits easily do able but the added benefit was the warmth retaining property which allowed us not to proverbially freeze our asses off, pun intended.”

Just for the Hunt Comfort record:  Our seats are mildly insulative.  While we are delighted to hear about our cold weather performance, we rarely get feedback on warmth.  We design seats not to take away body heat and never to make your backside get hot.  Here is a hunting tip - if you are sitting on a heated seat that makes you start to sweating then get up!  Sweaty is not a good condition for the ol tuckus.

Thanks Hunt Doctors - Check out their site www.thehuntdoctors.com

Notes from the Field

Stephanie was talking with Tiffany Lakosky this week and Tiffany had some kind words to share:

“Lee and I met David this past summer, working next to us at a couple of the hunting Expos, and David introduced us to his line of Hunt Comfort Cushions. He told me that they were designed to help hunters sit comfortably in their stands for longer periods of time. Since not only my hunting success but my career depends on my ability to stay in the stand, I was anxious to give one a try. After sitting on a Hunt Comfort FatBoy during the past several hunts, I’m now a believer. There’s nothing else like it out there. Sitting in a tree stand all day long is now much more bearable thanks to my Hunt Comfort Cushion.” — Tiffany Lakosky

Puncture Question

We were asked a super question today: What would happen to a FatBoy seat if were punctured - what would happen to the gel?  Also, where is the gel located in a FatBoy? The answer first is Hunt Comfort seats work fine with a hole or puncture - our gels are not bagged up liquids which leak goo everywhere if punctured.  There are cheap gel seats which have goo in bags (that’s about it) and they are ruined and a mess if punctured.  We have two formula’s and while both our gels have some liquid characteristics they are both solid polymers.  The gel is located on top of a FatBoy and in the middle of other cushions like the Classic.  Lastly, our warranty covers punctures and normal wear and tear.  Get to the woods.

Rocket Science

From an interesting discussion on hanging out in trees: ”What is neutral body posture?”  Great Question.  This got kinda way out there talking about sleep postures, the fetal position (OK Whatever!) and what is the lowest stress position.  There’s a $64,000??

Idea is “how do we set up our body best for hanging out for hours on end?” And how do we keep stresses low, reduce fatigue and keep alert so when we need to take the shot, we are confident.

Neutral body posture came from studies of work in a weightless environment - Also Known As space.  Well….it’s called gravity and we live and hunt on earth.  The demands of gravity require setting up our body posture to support loads on our frames.

If we could only develop weightless hunting…So meanwhile here is what neutral body posture looks like courtesy of NASA :

Topo and Aerial Maps

I met Paige Darden with www.mytopo.com this summer at a show.  They offer topo maps and aerial photographic maps and I have one on order.  The value of this service is that the map ordered is plenty large at 36″x48″ and it is a hybrid.  Mytopo can combine an aerial image with the topography overlayed (very nice having both).  Tic marks are included and resolution is user selectable.  The map I ordered is laminated.  We use maps extensively in wilderness areas and I am excited about this service.  Great idea.
