Hunt Comfort Specialist receives Field and Stream magazine’s 2010 Best of the Best Award

Hunt Comfort Specialist received Field and Stream magazine’s Annual Best of the Best Award. The Annual Best of the Best Awards are featured in the September 2010 issue of Field and Stream. Hunt Comfort is honored to have received this recognition from the judges who decided that it was the most innovative and best-designed product in its class. Specialist won the award in the Hunting Essentials category. The judging criteria included significance of the innovation, the quality of the design, and the value it brings to hunters.

Hunt Comfort Specialist is the result of over three years of product development and features our new SL or SuperLight technology. Quilts Update

Hunt Comfort has not had any new quilts for over a year now as Mae Lane’s mother passed away. We have many people ask about them and we simply have not had any – this has always been a fun thing for us. We have found two quilts that were made in 2006 or before by Mae and her mom. These are among the very earliest quilts – the fabric is definitely pre-2004 or before our move to Evergreen. We have not built product with this fabric in many years. Fabric is early Mossy Oak pattern and quilt colors are dark. These would be great around the cabin or the campfire after the hunt. These quilts are handmade and one of a kind. Sizes are approximate.

Wounded Warrior Hunts

All across the country this month, wounded warriors and hunting industry professionals are going hunting. Strong Medicine. Some of these hunts are taking place with the help of The Paralyzed Veteran’s of America. PVA has an Outdoor Recreation Heritage Fund which supports outdoor sports programs for seriously wounded veterans. Hunt Comfort is donating seats to these hunts. Hunt Comfort is pleased to announce Skype Video service for customers of its Custom Shop. This free service enables clients to conveniently view their custom work and new ideas live with Hunt Comfort’s representatives. The ability to see and discuss options together provides a wonderful advantage toward saving time and money.

Skype service also allows international customers to contact Hunt Comfort at no charge. Skype offers free calls, video calls and instant messaging over the internet. Working through designs live streamlines the custom work process for both Hunt Comfort and its customers.

The video conferencing experience delivers a new level of communication for Hunt Comfort’s customers. While frame rate is dependent upon band width, live video gives Hunt Comfort the ability to show details and explain concepts visually and instantly. Video conferencing allows Hunt Comfort to deliver a fuller customer service experience, and thanks to Skype this service is available at no charge.

Anyone with a free Skype account can access this service. Customers without a web cam can still view the Hunt Comfort representative in real time from a computer with a Skype account. Service is by appointment.

Snake time rhyme

When we get all excited running around the woods chasing critters, we are going to encounter Mr. No Shoulders. I’ve got snake books and you could say that they were a fear motivated purchase (or you could say a rattlesnake sold them to me). The snake boots just don’t get packed all the time. When I saw this little snake it gave me the “Willies” big time. I am sticking with “caution is a good thing”.

All I could remember was “red on yellow kills a fellow” and that was enough to tell me this was a scarlet kingsnake not a coral snake. So the old rhyme goes like this: “Red on yellow – kills a fellow” or “Red touching black – is a friend of Jack”. Think about running that stop light red and yellow….bad.

Everyone knows practice, practice….Great but what happens when you take the roadtrip, your gun gets banged around and you get a little doubt working against your confidence. Hunt Comfort Announces Design Challenge 2008
Hunt Comfort announces its first annual Design Challenge. Hunt Comfort is posting a $1000 bounty for the best, most innovative folding hunting seat design idea.
“Hunt Comfort is constantly improving its products by listening to the great ideas of hunting enthusiasts, and this annual contest is the start of a new tradition for us,” says David Robinson, president of Hunt Comfort. “We want to reward our customers’ great ideas with a paycheck.”
Since Hunt Comfort designs its products for dedicated hunters, the company is seeking creative folding designs with or without a frame that it can use to improve existing products or to develop a new product. The award may also be given for an enhancement or accessory idea.
If you feel like you have an idea that may be patent-worthy, please have someone witness and date your idea before you send it in. Hunt Comfort will advise any participant who sends in a patent-worthy idea.
Put on your thinking caps and go for the green. All entries must be submitted with a clear drawing, model or photograph.
Mail, fax or e-mail entries to Hunt Comfort with attention to Design Challenge 2008.
Deadline for submission of entries is September 2, 2008.

White Deer and Albinism

I could not believe my eyes and I could not keep the camera still. We have been following a white deer since 1999 and when we saw three it was heart jumping exciting. Luckily. I was able to get photos. Monday I sent photos off to a couple of people and it was agreed that the deer were not albino because their eyes were not pink – right? Wrong! Dr. Sid Wilroy, a dear friend and geneticist, corrected our common misconception that albinos must have pink eyes. It turns out the an albino can have white pigmentation and blue eyes. So… Albinos with the classic milky white skin and hair are often found with dark eyes. The scientific name for this is tyrosinase negative and it is inherited as autosomal recessive. Inbreeding of the herd??

Finally, another interesting piece of genetic science - a missing link from Dr. Wilroy: Another type is called piebald and these are inherited as a dominant meaning if a parent has this there is 1out of 2 that that parent will pass it on.
